Dr. Fabian Ferrari
Assistant Professor, Utrecht University
I am an Assistant Professor in Cultural AI at Utrecht University and a member of the focus area Governing the Digital Society. My postdoctoral research on generative AI governance (2022-2024) was supported by the Spinoza-funded project, led by Professor José van Dijck.
My doctoral thesis, Forces of Neural Production, examines the infrastructural geography of artificial intelligence. I investigate 1) how Amazon, Google, and Microsoft dominate the AI industry, 2) what this means for regulatory frameworks, and 3) how AI systems extend into cultural life.
My research has been published in journals such as Nature Machine Intelligence, Cultural Studies, New Media & Society, Competition & Change, and Environment and Planning F. I have also co-edited a book, Digital Work in the Planetary Market, published by MIT Press.
