Dr. Fabian Ferrari
Assistant Professor, Utrecht University
I am an Assistant Professor in Cultural AI at Utrecht University, an affiliate at the Centre for Digital Humanities, and a member of the focus area Governing the Digital Society. I hold a PhD from the University of Oxford and an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
My doctoral thesis, Forces of Neural Production, examines the infrastructural geography of artificial intelligence. I investigate 1) how Amazon, Google, and Microsoft dominate the AI industry, 2) what this means for regulatory frameworks, and 3) how AI systems extend into cultural life.
My research has been published in journals such as Nature Machine Intelligence, Cultural Studies, New Media & Society, Big Data & Society, and Competition & Change. I have also co-edited a book, Digital Work in the Planetary Market, which was published open access by MIT Press.
